一輛大巴車行駛在北川崎嶇的山路上，正午時分的人們昏昏欲睡，趕回去給女兒過生日的宋更歸心似箭，正在和女兒通電話時突然山崩地裂，剛才還平坦的道路頃刻間變成懸崖峭壁，大巴車懸停在峭壁上，宋更跳車而逃，電話里已經沒有了聲音，身后的大巴車墜入懸崖。一場罕見的里氏7.8級的地震奇襲而來，北川等地化為廢墟。
